Moving to a Senior Community - There is Help Available When Downsizing

 
 
Selling a house is no easy task. It is especially daunting when the reason for your move is your failing health or mobility. Oftentimes, your family has a busy life of their own, helping with appointments, children that need care, full-time jobs, etc. It can be quite overwhelming.
 
The most difficult task, in most cases, is emptying the house of your unwanted belongings. Once the house is empty, you notice the needed repairs, the required cleaning, and the potential for new paint or carpet.
 
It is helpful to know that there are services available to help you with all of these tasks. The first step is to decide what you are able to take with you. Many senior communities are helpful here. They will show you a diagram of your new home along with dimensions and a list of recommendations of what you should and should not bring with you.
 
Another service is one that will take care of the remaining items in the house. This is important because, as we know, the remaining items are not “junk” they are just items that won’t fit in your new home. These services will hold a sale so that you can make money from these remaining items. After the sale, they will donate what is left to a local charity (of course, you can choose which charity you prefer). Once these steps are done, they will throw away everything that remains.
 
The law when selling a home is that the house needs to be “broom-swept”. Of course, the most important goal is to make the most money possible from your home. This might mean a fresh coat of paint and a good deep cleaning.
 
Here is how I help my clients who have decided to move out of their homes. I have honest and dependable partners whom I recommend to help me. We will meet you together at your home. The company that I partner with will give you a price quote of all of the services listed above (selling, donating, removing, etc.). At the same time, I will tour your home, show you comparable sales, recommend a home sale price, and show you the profit I estimate you will receive from the sale of your home.
 
At this point, you are able to make the final decisions and move into your new community.
 
I have worked with two clients recently who moved into their beautiful senior community after only one appointment. The company that I partner with handled the preliminary work. I then had the houses cleaned. I marketed the house, hosted open houses, and did everything possible to ensure the highest sale price. I monitored the inspection process, helped coordinate needed repairs, and took care of everything needed for the sale.
 
After this, I picked up my clients from their new community and drove them to the closing. It was a wonderful day for everyone involved.
